## What is an enterprise AI platform?

An enterprise AI platform is one governed environment where a company's people and AI agents work across the systems it already runs. It gives each role applications over the same data, answers that show their sources, a place to build workflows and agents, and one set of controls over what AI may read, decide and change.

Most companies already use AI. People draft, summarize and search with it every day, and most of them say it makes them faster. The same gain is much harder to find in the company's own results, and that gap is where the enterprise AI platform comes from.

**80%** of respondents say AI has improved their individual productivity. 37 percent attribute any EBIT impact to their use of AI, about the same share as a year earlier.

## What is an enterprise AI platform?

An enterprise AI platform is the layer where AI meets the way a company actually runs. It connects to the ERP, the CRM, the document stores and the operational systems already in place, holds one shared picture of the work across them, and lets people and AI agents act on that picture under rules the company sets.

What makes it a platform is breadth, reach and control. It serves every role, from a site manager to the CFO. It reaches across systems, so a question about a project can draw on cost from finance, status from operations and terms from the contract. And the company governs it in one place, deciding once what any AI may see and do.

## Why do enterprises need an AI platform when employees already use AI?

Because personal AI use and enterprise results move at different speeds. An assistant helps one person with one task. The work that moves a company's numbers crosses departments and systems, and AI that takes part in it has to know which record is which, who may approve what, and where every answer came from.

Agents raise the stakes. An assistant that drafts a reply leaves a person to send it. An agent that changes a delivery date or raises a purchase order changes the company's records, and most organizations are already running agents of some kind.

**13%** of IT application leaders strongly agreed that their organization had the right governance structures in place to manage AI agents, while 75 percent were piloting, deploying or had already deployed some form of AI agent.

Gartner's own recommendations in [the same release](https://www.gartner.com/en/newsroom/press-releases/2025-09-30-gartner-survey-finds-just-15-percent-of-it-application-leaders-are-considering-piloting-or-deploying-fully-autonomous-ai-agents) point the same way. It advises organizations to "develop a platform-agnostic AI agent governance framework" and to "explore options across ERP, CRM and digital workplace portfolios".

> What closes the gap is AI that works across the business, under the company's own rules.

## What does an enterprise AI platform include?

Buyers should expect applications for every role, a plain-language way to ask questions and launch agents, a place to build the business's own workflows and agents, and governance over all of it, working across the systems the company already runs. The table sets out what each part does and what to ask a vendor to show you.

_The parts of an enterprise AI platform, and the demonstration that proves each one_

| Part | What it does | Ask to see |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Applications for every role | Each role works from views shaped to its job, over the same underlying data, so finance, operations and management read one version of the work. | Two roles looking at the same project, with the same numbers, each from their own angle |
| Answers and agents | People ask in plain language and get answers that cite the record behind them, and launch agents from the same place. | An answer to a question that spans three systems, with every source one click away |
| A workflow and agent builder | The business builds its own workflows, automations, routines and agents, with an approval step wherever a person must decide. | A workflow that stops for an approval before it changes anything |
| AI governance | One set of controls over which data, systems and actions each AI may use, and a record of everything it did. | The trail of one agent action, from the data it read to the person who approved it |
| Connection to existing systems | It reads from the ERP, the CRM and the systems around them, and they stay where they are. | Your own systems connected in a test environment, with no migration |

Applications for every role only help if the departments agree on what the work is. Why they so often do not is a subject of its own: [why two departments disagree about the same job](/insights/why-two-departments-disagree).

## Where does an enterprise AI platform fit beside assistants and built-in copilots?

Each serves a different need. A general assistant helps one person with text, research and drafting. A copilot built into one system works on that system's data. An enterprise AI platform serves the work that crosses systems and roles, and it is where the company sets the rules for AI that acts on its records.

| Tool | Best at | What it sees |
| --- | --- | --- |
| General AI assistant | Drafting, summarizing and research for one person | What that person pastes in or connects |
| Copilot inside one system | Tasks inside that system, such as the ERP or the CRM | That system's own data |
| Enterprise AI platform | Work that crosses departments and systems, by people and agents, under shared controls | Every system the company connects, as one picture |

Most enterprises will run all three. The platform is the answer to what happens when the work, or the agent doing it, has to move from one system to the next.

## How do you evaluate an enterprise AI platform?

Ask for demonstrations on your own processes and data, in a test environment. A platform shown only on a prepared example has yet to show the hard part. These requests tell a working platform from a slide:

1. **Pick one process that crosses two departments and has money attached.** Ask to see it end to end, from the first record to the final approval.
2. **Ask a question whose answer lives in three systems.** Check that every figure in the answer links back to the record it came from.
3. **Watch an agent prepare a change to a record.** Ask what it read, who approved the change, and where that approval is kept.
4. **Change a rule.** Raise an approval threshold or narrow what an agent may access, and see how long it takes and who is allowed to do it.
5. **Ask who keeps it running.** After go-live, who adjusts it when a process changes, and how fast?

> A definition costs nothing to copy. A working demonstration on your own data is the part only a real platform can give.

## Where HIVO OS fits

HIVO builds HIVO OS: one platform for your people, AI agents, and business operations working across the systems you already run.

Its parts follow the table above. [Workspace](/platform/workspace) gives every role business applications over the same data. [Chat](/platform/chat) answers from the business with sources and launches agents. [Studio](/platform/studio) is where the business builds its own workflows, automations, routines and agents. [Enterprise Control](/platform/enterprise-control) is AI governance across all of it. The ERP, the CRM and the systems around them stay where they are.

HIVO OS is delivered with HIVO's implementation teams, starting from how the company actually runs. More on how it works is on [the platform](/platform).

Two questions follow from here. Why AI often stops between a working demo and daily use is in [why enterprise AI pilots stall](/insights/why-enterprise-ai-pilots-stall). Where a person approves what an agent does is in [agentic workflows in the enterprise](/insights/agentic-workflows-human-approval).

## Frequently asked questions

### What is an enterprise AI platform?

One governed environment where a company's people and AI agents work across the systems it already runs: applications for every role over the same data, answers with sources, a builder for workflows and agents, and one set of controls over what AI may read, decide and change.

### Does an enterprise AI platform replace the ERP or the CRM?

No. It connects to them and works alongside them. Each system stays the authority for its own domain, and the platform holds how they relate to the same piece of work.

### Who uses an enterprise AI platform?

Every role that touches the work, from operations, finance, sales and service to management, plus the IT and risk teams who set the controls. Each role sees the same data, shaped to its job.

### How is AI governed on an enterprise AI platform?

From one place. The company decides which data, systems and actions each AI agent may use and which actions need a person to approve them, and it keeps a record of what every agent read, proposed and changed.
